Ocean Paintings Jaye Ouellette
2011
I moved from Toronto to Nova Scotia in 2003. Since living on the ocean I have become fascinated with the power and beauty of the sea, the constantly shifting patterns of colour and light. With this new body of work , I am focusing on the ephemeral quality of waves, the kinetic energy in that frozen moment when a wave is about to break. For me each wave is like a snowflake, each is unique from the one before or the one after. I find it remarkable how many elements contribute to the architecture of waves, the currents, off shore and on shore winds, swells and tides. I am constantly taking photograph. Each of these pieces starts as a small study, where I focus on color and composition, this then may or may not lead to a larger painting. I try to paint every day. This is important for my work as well as my well being.
These Paintings are acrylic on wood panel with a satin varnish finish.
They are in front mounted flloating frames, in dark colours and hand grained.
Please take note of the sizes, as they vary.
